  57. The next three posts comprise a new, expanded version of the 'welcome'
  58. articles previously posted to comp.sys.atari.st.  Please note:
  59.  
  60. 1.  They are incomplete - especially the hardware section.  The hardware
  61.     section contains vast areas 'under construction'.  I didn't want to
  62.     hold up the mid-month release of the 'welcome' articles.  If you have
  63.     some information which should go into any of these areas, please
  64.     send it to me via e-mail.  I own a Mega ST, so information which only
  65.     an STe or TT owner might want to know may or may not make its way into
  66.     the articles without your help.

  68. 2.  There are three parts.  Comments are greatly appreciated on what
  69.     items are appropriate for a particular part.
  70.  
  71. 3.  I've been sick with the flu since before Christmas, so there may have
  72.     been editing errors.  Let me know, and I'll correct 'em.

  74. 4.  I'm still working on 'tips on setting up often-used applications', such

  129. development information available to the general public. We are making
  130. the kit available to fulfil the needs of programmers that already have
  131. purchased a third-party development package, Atari owners that are
  132. curious about the 'nuts and bolts' of The Operating System, and
  133. anyone else that wants to have a detailed understanding of TOS
  134. software development. If you wish, you may purchase the entire kit
  135. for $150.00 (U.S.) and also get one year of technical support from
  136. Atari via the private Atari Developer Roundtable on GEnie, 6 issues
  137. of the bi-monthly Developer Newsletter, ATARI.RSC, and one year of
  138. on-going developer kit upgrades. If you wish to renew after one year,
  139. there is a fee of only $40.00.

  141. If you wish information on only certain aspects of Atari TOS
  142. computers, we also sell sections of the kit separately. The items
  143. that are available range from every issue of the developer newsletter
  144. since 1985, to the release notes for the exciting new STBOOK. Every

  327. I too appreciate the ease of installing 1.33i.  However, I found an error
  328. in minstart.s in the 1.33i release.  This is the startup code that does
  329. double-duty for accessories and regular programs.  When used as an
  330. accessory, it stomps on two bytes of the program's .data area.  The culprit
  331. is a fencepost error in setting the initial stack pointer.
  332.  
  333. As noted in the source, it can't be assembled with jas, so I did a quick
  334. object patch (appended).

  408. Well if its the New Atari 14" monitor it could be posible,
  409. they have A/V inputs..

  411. I used the Commodore C64 (1702 ?) monitor that was made by JVC,
  412. worked very well with the 8 bit Atari..
  413.  
  414. But I don't think its posible if its one of the older 12" monitors..

  476. The Mega STE has a 68000 CPU in a PLCC socket - while the 68030 SST is
  477. designed to replace a 68000 CPU in DIL style. Also, the form factor in
  478. the Mega STE is very different from the Mega ST - so the SST would simply
  479. not fit into the case.

  481. A SST for the Mega STE may come out, according to Dave Small. But then
  482. again, this is "may" as in "may be, may be not"...

  526. The point is that 68000 branch instructions only have 16-bit offsets,
  527. so you can't jump from the beginning of a 64K segment to the end.
  528. Think about it: if you give branch an offset of $FFFF, it will intepret
  529. the high bit as sign and convert to an ofset of -32K, NOT +64K.
  530.  
  531. For full generality, one needs to be able to jump from anywhere in
  532. a segment to anywhere else in the segment.  So segments are limited
  533. to 32K without lots of trickery.

  579. Here the latest information I got from Gadgets (dated December 31): Spectre
  580. 3.1 *should* be ready at the end of January - and it will support System 7.
  581. However, since then I wasn`t able to reach anybody at Gadgets`. I understand
  582. that the lady who ran the paperworks quit in December and moved to Jamaica.
